While former Batman sidekick Dick Grayson – in his solo Nightwing incarnation – is rumoured to be making an appearance in Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs Superman, The CW’s Arrow have staked their own claim on the character.

Steven R McQueen, who plays Jeremy Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries, tweeted, “Had some superhero conversations with the executives this weekend @ARROWwriters.”

He then added (Note the T-shirt, which has the DC Animated Universe’s stylised Nightwing logo on it):

Arrow Season 2 Nightwing

Nightwing has long been the showrunner’s dream cameo, with Bludhaven – the character’s traditional stomping ground – mentioned way back in Arrow Season 1.

Kyle Higgins, also copied in on the Tweet, is the current writer of Nightwing, having helmed the title since its New 52 reboot.

There’s an interesting follow-up question here about the clear demarcation between DC on the small screen and DC on the big screen – does this mean we’ll have two Nightwings running around, or is Steven McQueen now in the running for the Man Of Steel sequel too?

Arrow Season 2 is airing every Monday at 8pm, on Sky 1 HD and Sky Go. Arrow Season 1 is out now on DVD for £21.02 or on Blu-ray for £27.49 from Amazon.co.uk.
