Apocalypse Now Now film coming from District 9 writer

Charlie Human’s mad SA SF novel Apocalypse Now Now is getting turned into a film, rejoice!

Apocalypse-Now-NowCharlie Human’s fantastic (and fantastically mad) novel Apocalypse Now Now has been picked up by XYZ studios to be adapted into a movie.

Arrow In The Head reports that District 9 and Chappie co-writer Terri Tatchell is working on the screenplay for the film, which blends fantasy, horror and all-round weirdness..actually, let’s just give you the synopsis.

“Baxter Zevcenko is making a name for himself as the kingpin of his smut-peddling high-school syndicate, while the other gangs are staying out of his business, and he’s dating the girl of his dreams, Esme. But when Esme gets kidnapped, things start to get seriously weird, and the only man drunk enough to help is a bearded, booze-soaked, supernatural bounty hunter that goes by the name of Jackson “Jackie” Ronin.

Plunged into the increasingly bizarre landscape of Cape Town’s supernatural underworld, Baxter and Ronin team up to save Esme. On a journey that takes them through the realms of impossibility, they must face every conceivable nightmare to get her back, including the odd brush with the Apocalypse.”

“South Africa has always pushed through the usual limits of my imagination and Apocalypse Now Now is no exception,” enthused Tatchell. “Charlie has actually upped the game and obliterated them all altogether. I am beyond excited!”

Baxter’s story has already continued in Human’s equally brilliant follow-up Kill Baxter, and we’d recommend reading both novels immediately. We’re very, very excited about the idea of a what a film could be like, provided that the weirdness, filth and violence don’t get toned down…
