Bloody Disgusting is reporting, through anonymous sources, that 20th Century Fox is currently developing a reboot of their enormously influential film, with Ridley Scott on board as a producer alongside Tony Scott and Michael Costigan. The director of this effort, according to the site’s tipster, is Carl Rinsch, a commercials and music video director.

However, the site also received a second tip that confirmed a new Alien film was in the works, but rather than a reboot it would be an origin story for Ridley Scott’s effort. The original Alien dealt with the crew of the Nostromo, an interplanetary tug that came across the titular creature when it managed to infect one of its members, then proceeded to stalk and kill the humans on board. Having more in common, in many ways, with the horror genre than science fiction, the film nevertheless went on to spawn three sequels, two crossover films with the Predator franchise, a host of videogames, toys and other merchandise and a series of novels. Predator is also being rebooted right now, courtesy of Robert Rodriguez.
