Alien: Covenant first plot details and title art, but who’s missing?

Only one Prometheus star is confirmed in the Alien: Covenant plot synopsis

Following the new title reveal, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant has a new plot synopsis that has a few clues worth looking at (via Coming Soon).

“Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Which is interesting stuff, introducing a new crew (fingers crossed for a better, less-hastily written band of characters than we saw in Prometheus) and a new ship, but one point to make is the absence of Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw? We’ve all been operating on the assumption that Rapace would return for the Prometheus follow-up alongside Fassbender. Should we read into her absence? Is her character being held back deliberately? Did she and David get where they were going at the end of the film? Should we wait for confirmation before we speculate wildly?

One thing we do know: Given the rate at which little snippets of teasing news keep popping up for this film, we’ll have more to talk about soon.

Alien: Covenant will be released on 30 May 2017. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
