Now that the War Of The Words competition has closed and we’re making our way through the hundreds of entries, Tor UK and SciFiNow are pleased to announce that, due to the quality of the work submitted, the shortlist will be expanded to ten places.
The finalists will be notified on Monday 7 September, along with instructions for the next stages of the competition.
Does this mean that those being considered for the shortlist have already had their full length novels requested? Or are you waiting to do that on Sept. 7th already as well?
It means those who have made the now ten-person shortlist will be contact on Monday about moving forward.
Soooooooo…
Should I stop refreshing my inbox yet?
Not yet.
How about now?
I’m hoping not, I haven’t gotten my notice yet ;D *hopes*
Well I received nowt in the way of phonecalls or emails, so I’m taking the hint that I didn’t get to the shortlist. Bah! Was sorta hoping to, would have been a thrill and a half.
Congrats to anyone who did make the 10 – feel free to post your gloatings and we’ll pretend to be very gracious towards you whilst secretly fashioning voodoo dolls and buying industrial-sized boxes of pins
Seriously though, thanks to Sci Fi Now and the publishers for even dreaming up this competition. Got me off my proverbial and now I have a nice shiny book, which even if it wasn’t to the judges tastes, I kinda like!
Congrats to those ten authors, good luck!
I know it may be a bit much to ask, but could we see the query letters of the ten who did make it? (Or would that give away too much?) That one introduction, more than the synopsis or example pages, seems to be what separates the published from the slush-pile.
Yay! I didn’t make the short list. I get to self-publish yet another book. I’m actually looking forward to reading the winner’s book, though. From the writing trenches, congrats!
Lolotehe – I’m afraid they’re confidential, sorry. A strong synopsis, for us, was what piqued our interest rather than the covering letter. But the writing was paramount overall.
Can you tell us roughly how many entries there were, please?
So…
Where’s that shortlist?
