ABC has shortened its commitment to both FlashForward and V, following both series breaking for the midseason.
Both shows have suffered falling ratings since their debut – FlashForward consistently over its season, while V managed to level out at the end of its four-episode broadcast schedule. The reduction, however, is only by one episode for both shows, according to television website The Futon Critic.
ABC’s efforts with the genre this season have been simultaneously flawed and successful. V and FlashForward were the best performing pilots of the year to date, however, Eastwick failed to attract significant attention or enthusiasm, and the network deferred on ordering any more. The show is now effectively cancelled.
Both shows return with their slightly reduced order in 2010. V will run with eight episodes, while FlashForward still has 14 to go.

Good to see FlashForward and V are set to return in 2010, as these have the potential to be classic series. I just hope they don’t get cancelled ala Dollhouse. Studios should look more into fan service than ratings as favourite shows are cancelled all the time due to ratings. Not too fussed about Eastwick though – I watched the first two episodes and found it so sickly sweet… I’ll stick with True Blood. :P
