Speaking to Sky News, genre heavyweight and capital-A Actor Gary Oldman revealed that he’s been approached for a role in JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

“They’ve called, yeah,” the actor confirmed. I’m more cynical about [casting] now, I believe it when I’m on the plane home. You know, the deal isn’t done [until then]. But yeah, they’ve inquired.”

After playing so many gruff and flinty outsiders, or maniacal bad guys, it would be nice to corral Oldman into a roguish Jedi Master role, perhaps somewhere between Liam Neeson’s twinkly Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and his fascinating and dangerous Sirius Black in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban.

Star Wars: Episode VII is due in cinemas 18 December 2015. You can buy Star Wars: The Complete Saga for £57.99 on Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk.
