Despite earlier rumours suggesting that Book Of Eli star Denzel Washington would be playing Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs Superman Man Of Steel sequel, according to NukeTheFridge.com, Washington will in fact be playing John Stewart, one of the many Earthlings to hold the title of Green Lantern.
No sources are cited, so as usual – take it with a pinch of salt.
Introduced in Green Lantern #87 (December 1971/January 1972) by classic creative duo Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams, Stewart was one of the DC Universe’s earliest African-American superheroes, and for an entire generation became the most recognisable Green Lantern thanks to a key role in the fan-favourite Justice League Unlimited animated series.
Suffice to say, a high profile non-white or high profile non-male superhero would be hugely welcome.
