Doctor Who Series 8 will not be split, Capaldi is 14th Doctor

Steven Moffat confirms that Matt Smith is 13th Doctor, Peter Capaldi’s first series won’t be split

Peter Capaldi Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi Doctor WhoDoctor Who Series Eight, the first to star Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, will not be a split run, and will be shown consecutively.

Digital Spy reports that, while speaking at the BFI, Steven Moffat confirmed that, unlike Series Seven, this new series will be shown in a single run. The site reports that the new series will probably begin in August 2014, although Capaldi will make his first appearance in this year’s Christmas Special.

The site also reports a comment from Moffat telling the Radio Times that Matt Smith’s Doctor is in fact the 13th Doctor; having incorporated John Hurt’s War Doctor and David Tennant’s failed regeneration in ‘The Stolen Earth’.

“”We’ll find out [in the Christmas special] that Matt Smith is actually the 13th Doctor. Although everyone knows that the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times. “That 12 times limit is a central part of Doctor Who mythology – and science fiction is all about rules, right? So if the Doctor can never change again, what’s Peter Capaldi doing in the Christmas Special?”

‘The Time Of The Doctor’ will be shown on BBC1 on Christmas Day. You can buy ‘The Day Of The Doctor’ on Blu-ray for £11.25 at Amazon.co.uk.
