Director Roland Emmerich has stated that Will Smith will not appear in Independence Day 2.
Will Smith’s salary and stardom are the reasons why he won’t be starring in the sci-fi sequel, Emmerich told the NY Daily News.
“Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much.”
However, there’s still a chance that we’ll see Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.
“We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new,” Emmerich teased. “We’re not doing a total reboot, we’re doing something that’s totally unusual.”
Independence Day 2 has been set for a 3 July 2015 release date. You can buy Independence Day on Blu-ray for £5.
