Kick-Ass could go for “5 or 6 films” says John Romita Jr

Kick-Ass 3 won’t be the end according to creators Mark Millar and John Romita Jr

SciFiNow spoke exclusively to comic-book co-creators John Romita Jr and Mark Millar on the set of Kick-Ass 2, the pair made a surprising revelation about the future of the film franchise, saying that if the will is there, it could continue for far more movies than there are actual books.

“It will be interesting to see what happens, because I think they will keep making the movies after the books. We were going to stop at three; we weren’t going to do anymore-

“Well, you are going to stop,” Romita interjects.

“But unless I have a humongous tax bill,” continues Millar, “there is absolutely no way that three is not the end because there are so many other things we want to do. I think Universal is quite keen on doing extra ones if they keep making money, but I wonder how that will go, because we won’t be involved except as producers.”

“Listen,” finishes Romita, “if anybody dies in the fourth or fifth movie and comes back in the seventh or eighth movie we know we’ve jumped the shark! That’s it, it’s over, we’ve sold out, but until that point, we won’t have sold out. I hope they do five or six films. I think it would be great.”

Although Kick-Ass 2‘s opening weekend wasn’t a runaway success, there’s a strong chance that much like the first film it could grow internationally and through DVD and Blu-ray via word-of-mouth.
