According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doctor Who star Karen Gillan, who entered fangeek hearts as Amy Pond, has been cast in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.

The site added, “Details for Gillan’s role were not revealed, although it is known she will play the film’s lead female villain” opposite Lee Pace’s mysterious male villain.

One theory is that Gillan will be joining Zoe Saldana in busting out the bodypaint by playing Nebula, a vicious space pirate who claimed to be the granddaughter of Thanos which would fit with Marvel’s Phase 2 plan to tease the Mad Titan, without actually bringing our heroes face to face with him.

If true it bodes interestingly for Marvel’s Phase 3 agenda too, as in the comics, Thanos, upon his return and with near-omnipotent Infinity Gauntlet, dismisses her claim to be family, and transforms her agonisingly into a “living sculpture of pain and death”. Not out for the count, she then makes off with the Infinity Gauntlet herself.

It’s easy to imagine her a major player in Guardians Of The Galaxy and then perhaps a factor in Avengers 2, but boom, in a closing credit sequence she pays failty to Thanos and he simply smiles at the camera, fade to black, and screaming.
