Avengers 2’s Scarlet Witch based on Saoirse Ronan?

Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble 2 is looking to Saoirse Ronan for the Scarlet Witch

According to SuperHeroHype, Irish actor Saoirse Ronan – star of Neil Jordan’s forthcoming vampire film Byzantium, as well as Andrew Niccol’s dispiriting The Host – is being used as the ‘prototype’ for the role of reality-warping new Avenger the Scarlet Witch.

Joss Whedon previously teased the involvement of the brother/sister duo of Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch in Avengers Assemble 2.

It’s quite difficult to work out what SuperHeroHype is banging on about with all their convoluted doublespeak, but it sounds as though they’re looking for a sort of ethereal vibe for Wanda, and Ronan is their Platonic ideal for that.

What’s not a fact, despite reporting elsewhere, is that Ronan is playing the Scarlet Witch – she could, but there’s no evidence to suggest this either way.

On a completely unrelated topic, SuperHeroHype adds amusingly, “As far as Wanda’s brother Pietro – now we’re assuming they’re going to use the same first names from the comics even though they’re played as British.”

Oh, can’t British people be called Wanda and Pietro? I wasn’t told.

Byzantium is in cinemas 31 May 2013. Pick up Neil Jordan’s Interview With The Vampire on DVD for £3 or Blu-ray for £6.29 from Amazon.co.uk.
