Yesterday it was revealed that The Vampire Diaries Season 4 would be hosting a backdoor pilot for a spin-off based around star Joseph Morgan’s family of Originals, the first family of vampires. Phoebe Tonkin’s werewolf Hayley will also star alongside Morgan’s Klaus.
“We’re basically going to focus on the Original family,” The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz confirmed at the Television Critics Association press tour. “Klaus is one of the founding fathers in New Orleans, and the show will be set in that venue.
“Klaus is just a great character and the Original family has such great dysfunctional family dynamics, we felt that that was a great way to go and take the show.”
Pedowitz went onto reveal that the “genesis” of the potential series came from the showrunners themselves, Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson.
“We spoke with Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, and Kevin said, ‘Let Julie take a run at it. It’s her vision’,” explained Pedowitz
The Vampire Diaries Season 4 is airing now on ITV2. The Vampire Diaries Season 3 is available on Blu-ray priced £23 and DVD priced £19.49 from Amazon.co.uk.
