The first heavyweight Star Wars rumour in quite some time, according to Vulture, Watchmen and Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder is working on a separate movie from Star Wars: Episode VII.

Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 movie Seven Samurai – itself a huge influence on the original Star Wars trilogy, and homaged in a fan-favourite episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars – the disgraced samurai defending a village will become Jedi knights instead.

According to Vulture’s insider, the movie will be set after Return Of The Jedi, and will go into production after Disney begin work on Episode VII – making its release either 2015 or 2016.

Zack Snyder’s people, meanwhile, got in touch The Hollywood Reporter to refute the claim, saying that ”while he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man Of Steel and 300: Battle Of Artemisia [now titled 300: Rise Of An Empire].”

The complete Star Wars saga (so far!) is available on Blu-ray priced £56.79 from Amazon.co.uk.
