Speaking exclusively to legendary horror director Wes Craven recently for a future issue of SciFiNow, we took the opportunity to press the A Nightmare On Elm Street creator to see if there was any news on a follow-up to 2011’s Scream 4.

“Well, no one has called me about it,” laughed Craven. “At the moment I have no idea what the plans are for the franchise – it would be down to [producer] Bob Weinstein to decide on that.”

At one point, Craven’s comparatively underrated 1991 comedy/horror The People Under The Stairs was lined up for a remake or reboot, circa the big budget redux of The Hills Have Eyes, but since 2008 little has been heard of the project.

“That is not happening anymore,” confirmed Craven. “We did explore, very seriously, doing the remake of it because I felt that its themes of homelessness and racial stigma were becoming more and more relevant to the current times. But it wasn’t working out – there were a few entities involved in the property and for whatever reasons it just never came together.”
