A new film of George Orwell’s masterpiece 1984 is in development and there’s a big name lined up to direct.

Deadline reports that The Bourne Supremacy and Captain Phillips director Paul Greengrass is attached the project, which will be written by James Graham for Sony.

This new take on the dystopian tale, in which Winston Smith begins to explore the truth about the society in which he lives as Big Brother watches him, is some ways off yet. Deadline notes that Greengrass is most likely about to jump into a new Bourne film with Matt Damon. Still, he’s an exciting choice for the story, which was last made into a film back in 1984 by Michael Radford with superb performances from John Hurt and Richard Burton.

You can buy 1984 for £5.59 at Amazon.co.uk. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
