Syfy have announced that they are developing a TV series based on Terry Gilliam’s 1995 film 12 Monkeys, which starred Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeline Stowe.

The film starred Willis as a convict transported back in time from his ruined dystopian world to the present day in an attempt to stop the disease which decimated humanity.

THR report that SyFy is planning a 90 minute pilot episode that would lead into a series, in the same way as Battlestar Galactica.

“We have a great pilot,” said SyFy president Mark Stern. “We’re now flushing out what the rest of the series might be. We’re looking at short orders, maybe eight to 10 [episodes] as opposed to 13. Some may be [split runs of] 10 and 10. Our goal is to do five or six original scripted series a year and a big tentpole event miniseries that could also possibly serve as a backdoor pilot to a series as well, the way that Battlestar Galactica did. It’s an exciting time for us.”

You can buy 12 Monkeys on Blu-ray for £14.49 at Amazon.co.uk.
