Jane Espenson writing for Game Of Thrones

by Samuel Roberts

Genre favourite writer joins promising HBO fantasy project.

got2.1Jane Espenson will write an episode of upcoming HBO fantasy drama Game Of Thrones, according to the Chicago Tribune. The fan-favourite writer, whose output includes work on shows like Battlestar Galactica, Caprica and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, will write episode six of the elaborate drama, based on the Songs Of Fire And Ice series by George RR Martin.

The first season is expected to start in 2011, and is being executive produced by Troy’s David Benioff and DB Weiss. It was greenlit to series a few weeks ago.

Espenson’s input can only be a good thing – she produced some of the best episodes of Battlestar’s later seasons and steered Caprica to the credible, intriguing creative place it is now. We can’t wait to see what she comes with in Game Of Thrones.

Even her episode of The OC was excellent. Yeah, I said it!

Legend Of The Seeker rocks so I hope Game Of Thrones does too! However, I haven’t read any of the books so should I brush up or just go headlong into it like it did with Seeker? By the way, surely I am not the only Legend Of The Seeker fan out there? Is there anyone else and any of the ScifiNow team? I don’t see much of it covered in your mag, and it is getting better and better!

Hmm… I wonder if Martin was stalling the release of the last book in the series while negotiating the TV rights with HBO. Who wants to bet he releases the last book in the series to coincide with the TV show debut?
