The last time a new Futurama episode aired, it was 2003. The next time, it’ll be 2010.
Although it’s one of the less talked-about shows on our radar, Futurama has always had a special place in the hearts of SciFiNow. While we weren’t as enamoured by the recent TV movies as we hoped we would be, the series has an enduring brilliance that encourages watching and rewatching. The format was misfiring, on DVD, since the production had to be re-edited later on into four standalone episodes, meaning the narrative arc in each didn’t really work.
I’m expecting a return to form, though – TV is Futurama’s natural home, and, even if we’ve had to wait seven years for more, the resulting work will no doubt be worth it. The show returns to Comedy Central 24 June at 10PM.

My immediate reaction is Joy. Futurama is one of my favorite shows. The writing is brilliant.
That brings me to my secondary reacion – concern. I hope they’re able to bring back at least some of the same writers. Seven years is certainly a long time and I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that some or all of those writers have new jobs they’re hesitant to leave.
Futurama is one of my favourite shows and (dare I say it) even wittier and funnier than The Simpsons! Four series was too short and I thought it would run and run like The Simpsons has… Hopefully now that it’s back, it will!
Be nice to see a return to a traditional 22-minute format. I though the “movies” were pretty poor, and then splitting them down into episodes and calling them Season 5 was a bit of a cop out.
