The 1955 original is often cited as the defi nitive version, but in terms of the execution of its ending Phillip Kaufman’s decent remake of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers is the hands-down winner. A nervous studio tacked an ill-judged epilogue onto Don Siegel’s fi lm, thereby dulling the power of its fi nal revelation. Kaufman, however, suffered no such meddling, and the sight of the snatched Donald Sutherland vacantly shrieking as the camera disappears into his open mouth remains truly disturbing.
