The Wachowski brother’s career-defining movie set the bar very high indeed for sci-fi actioners (a bar it proceeded to drop repeatedly on its own feet during the sequels) and the storming rescue of Morpheus from under the Agents’ noses is one of the film’s most jaw-dropping sequences. “Guns, lots of guns,” Neo declares before he and Trinity strap a small armoury under their leathers and embark on the shoot-out to end all shoot-outs.
