A truly faithful big-screen adaptation of Marvel’s clawed mutant would never make a pin-up list. He would be short, ugly, old and probably smell. So it’s a testament to X-Men’s casting director that they managed to please fanboys with a more-than-compromised, matinee-idol version of Weapon X. At over 6ft tall, former stage star Hugh Jackman wasn’t an obvious choice but he ended up in the leather suit regardless, and the result was something entirely unpredictable: comic fans felt appeased and ladies across the world were swooning over a grumpy, feral mutant with metal bones and silly hair.
