Novel Adaptations
Some say that there are no new good ideas, a supposition done no harm by this top ten chart. SciFiNow lists its favourite book-to-screen sci-fi adaptations.

Dune
Year: 1984
Director: David Lynch
Cast: Kyle MacLachlan, Brad Dourif, Sting
Adapted from: Dune by Frank Herbert (novel, 1965)

Despite having developed a cult status, the theatrical version of Dune was initially received poorly by critics and derided by fans of the novel for the enormous liberties it took with the adaptation. Chief among its many radical changes was the decision to alter the form of combat that is used by MacLachlan. Originally a form of super kung-fu known as ‘the weirding way’, the style was replaced by a sonic weapon called the ‘weirding module’.
