The original 59-page novel, The Iron Man, is vastly different from its animated adaptation. Although the relationship between Hogarth and the giant remains, the majority of the story concerns itself with the giant’s battle against The Star Spirit, an invading creature from space. The giant eventually beats the creature in a contest and forces it to sing, while in constant orbit around the earth, in order to lull humanity into a peaceful state and end all war.
