Novel Adaptations
Some say that there are no new good ideas, a supposition done no harm by this top ten chart. SciFiNow lists its favourite book-to-screen sci-fi adaptations.

2001: A Space Odyssey
Year: 1968
Director: Stanley Kubrick
Cast: Keir Dullea, Douglas Rain, Gary Lockwood
Adapted from: The Sentinel by Arthur C Clarke (short story, 1948)

Think that 2001 was based on the novel of the same name? Think again. The novel and film were both written at the same time. Both were actually based on an earlier short story, about the discovery of a polished pyramid on the surface of the moon, which Clarke had entered in a BBC competition. Despite the similarities, Clarke claimed that comparing the two was like comparing “an acorn to the resulting oak tree”.
