Sci-Fi Movie Posters
The movie poster is a paradoxical creation. Designed to be aesthetically pleasing while selling a movie too, it is this meeting of art and commerce that makes them such a unique and enduring creation. SciFiNow takes a look at ten of the most memorable.

Forbidden Planet
Year: 1956
Director: Fred M Wilcox
Cast: Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen
The quite menacing-looking Robby the Robot with the buxom female in his arms would get the arbitrators of political correctness, the MPAA, in a tizz these days. However, despite this misdirection, it is the beautiful use of colour in the depiction of Robby and the magnificent background that makes this poster such a treasure. The artwork’s comic strip influences are the source of its eternal appeal and the cinemascope-shaped title embodies the sense of awe the film evoked. The self-explanatory tagline, ‘Amazing!’, completes a timeless and near-perfect package.
