EPISODE 18:
HOLLYWOOD BABYLON
US Air Date: 19/04/2007
Writer: Ben Edlund
Director: Philip Sgriccia

Supernatural returns for the last fi ve episodes of this second season with an episode that plays on clichéd Hollywood horror. Sam and Dean make the journey to Tinseltown to investigate the death of an actor on the set of a horror movie, entitled Hell Hazers II: The Reckoning. They’re involved because there are rumours that he was killed by a ghost as he is found dead on the ceiling, leading the brothers to think they may be dealing with a case similar to the story of Seventies fi lm Poltergeist. When they get to LA they visit Stage 9, where the fi lm’s being made, and discover there’s been string of suspicious deaths there in recent years. They speak to Tara, who plays the leading lady, about her discovery of the body of a crew member. They visit his home to fi nd that his death was a hoax. But while they are there a studio big cheese and the fi lm’s executive producer are killed. The deaths lead Sam and Dean to conclude that it’s a haunted set and that a killer ghost is on the loose. However, when they locate and stop one ghost and the attacks continue they have to face up to that rarest of poltergeist phenomena – tag team ghosts. The episode features a string of knowing Hollywood in-gags, with characters quoting dialogue from Die Hard and the action based on real urban myths concerning haunted movie sets of Three Men And A Baby and Poltergeist.
While being given a tour of a studio, their guide says that the group might see some stars from Gilmore Girls. Sam immediately looks agitated and pleads with Dean for them to leave the tour. This is a reference to Jared Padalecki, who had played a character on the Gilmore Girls who left the show in a messy fashion.
