The blockbusting season closer for
SG-1, although as fans are no doubt
already aware there are two films in
the pipeline that will conclude the Ori
and the Ba’al plots. The plot centres
on the death of the Asgard race, who
it is revealed are suffering from a
terminal disease. They do not want to
leave their technical expertise to be
plundered and decide to leave their
skills and knowledge to the Tau’ri and
then the entire race will commit a
mass suicide. As they announce this
three Ori ships attack the Odyssey
and the Asgards destroy their planet.
The Ori’s vicious assault destroys the
Odyssey’s shields, and is about to
launch a fatal beam that will destroy
the craft when Carter discovers that
the technology the Asgards gave
them could be key to saving their lives.
She discovers a time-dilation field,
which means that while time passes
as normal inside the field everything
outside is slowed to milliseconds,
allowing them to work on finding a
solution before the massively slowed
beam hits them. Around 50 years
passes before the crew, who we see
age and form new relationships, work
out a way of escaping from the dilation
field without the ship being destroyed.
But for the plan to work one person
may stay – Teal’c volunteers as he
has a much longer lifespan. The plan
works and in spectacular action
scenes they manage to travel back in
time to save the ship and their lives.
