Lex requires the help of Milash, an antiques expert, to help him examine the cryptograph from Zurich. After Milash takes the cryptograph away for further study, Lex is attacked and mutilated by a robed assailant, who carves Kryptonian symbols into his chest before being forced into flight by Lex’s security guards. Jimmy manages to take a picture of Lex being taken to hospital, which he shows to Chloe at her apartment. Recognising one of the symbols, Chloe shows Clark at the medical centre, and he is able to identify a few words. Chloe decides that somebody from Veritas is trying to obtain the cryptogram, and also that Lex remains unaware that Clark is the traveller. Clark heads off to confront Lex. Meanwhile, the attacker has managed to trace Milash to his shop, and after calling a superior to confirm he has found the cryptogram, he attacks and kills two guards before rounding on Milash. Luckily for Milash, Lex arrives in the nick of time and kills the attacker. Through their separate research, both Lex and Clark realise they must travel to St Christopher’s Cathedral in Montreal to complete their quests. Clark arrives first and meets Edward Teague, the last surviving member of Veritas, who pledges to help the traveller. When Edward discovers that Clark is unwilling to destroy Lex, his intentions turn sinister, as he cannot allow Clark to fall under Lex’s control. Subduing Clark with Kryptonite, he binds him into an ancient Kryptonian ritual, looking like a human sacrifice. Lex then arrives and places the cryptograph in a clock, resulting in a tune and a five-sided key, directing him to Scotland. Teague confronts Lex, impressed with his tenacity. As they fight, Chloe arrives and rescues the weakened Clark, who manages to stop Lex from killing Teague at super speed, destroying the clock in the process. In Scotland, Lex tears a mansion apart to discover the final clue: a map of the world showing a location in the Arctic. |
