While filming for a Hollywood movie takes place on the Kent farm, Clark saves the lead actress, Rachel Davenport, from a car crash. Rachel invites Clark out to say thank you, and Chloe discovers that the car’s brake cables had been tampered with. At the Daily Planet, Lois is working on a story about Lex buying seemingly worthless land, but an unimpressed Gabriel tells her to ditch the story.
Lana discovers that fans of the movie, a comic book adaptation, aren’t happy with some of the changes made to the story. One fan is particularly incensed that in this version, Rachel’s character – who dies in the original story – now survives. On set, a production assistant replaces a gun’s blanks with live ammunition in an attempt to kill Rachel, but fortunately Clark spots the switch in time. Realising someone is out to hurt the actress, he takes her to a safe place.
But Ben, the crazy fan, finds Rachel in hiding with Lana. He believes that for Clark to accept his calling, he must lose his girlfriend, just like the characters in the comic book. He throws Lana from the building, but Clark shows up just in time and catches her. Ben is caught and locked up.
Rachel arrives at the Kent farm with a present for Clark, saying that her outlook on life has changed because of him. After she leaves, Lana considers what Ben said about how the world needs Clark more then she does. Clark insists he has everything he wants, and Lana seems to accept this. Clark opens the present from Rachel to find a superhero cape from the movie inside.
