Clark and Lois head to the dam where, to their surprise, they encounter a spaceship with a mysterious woman who, at superspeed of course, warns them off, all while clutching a House of El device. Upon their return, Lois decides their sighting is of imminent importance to the Inquisitor. Meanwhile, Lex learns of Lana’s ‘death’.

Clark then speaks to Chloe who informs him that the mysterious ‘Supergirl’ has been looking for a young boy at various local elementary schools and Clark heads off to intercept where, lo and behold, he spots the House of El bracelet Supergirl is sporting. Putting two and two together as only a superhero can, he realises Supergirl, now revealed to be called Kara, has been in suspended animation for 18 years and he then relates the upsetting history of the destruction of Krypton to her.

The ship, which could just cause a nuclear explosion it turns out, has been taken to a mysterious warehouse and only after Clark and Kara use their superhearing do they locate it. Arriving at the last minute, Kara manages to contain the blast from the explosion, which has been triggered by the poking and prodding by a team of meddlesome scientists.

Lex, meanwhile, tracks down Lana to China where she reveals that she used the clone of herself Lex was creating to stage her own death, causing the evil bald one to proclaim he will no longer try to hurt her.

Kara and Clark reminisce about Krypton but it’s not long before she reveals the importance of a crystal that had been contained in the ship, which is then revealed to be in Washington, in the possession of the Department of Domestic Security. At the Fortress of Solitude, Jor-El tells Clark that Kara is dangerous and so he decides to stay in Smallville to watch over her, while receiving his superhero training too, of course.
