The season finale has generated mixed reviews, some fans claiming the series is running out of steam while others loved it. It’s certainly crammed with twists. It starts with a demon from the Phantom Zone escaping from a convulsing man’s body as Lex arrives with his troops. Lex confronts Lionel about the DVD and discovers his father had pushed Lana into their marriage. Lana visits Clark to tell him she is leaving. He tells her about his powers but she reveals she already knew. She refuses to stay and warns him to be careful, leading Clark to realise that Lionel had threatened her by saying he could hurt Clark. He attacks Lionel but John arrives and tells Clark that Lionel is an agent for Jor-El sent to monitor him. The episode culminates with Lana tearfully leaving Smallville but her SUV seeming to blow up in a crash. Meanwhile the demon duplicates Clark’s DNA and transforms itself into a phantom version of Clark with all his powers. While Lex is arrested for Lana’s murder Clark does battle with himself as the clone’s face turns into the rock-like complexion of vintage Superman foe Bizarro.
