Beth is reporting on the execution of charismatic cult leader, Donovan Shepherd. Shepherd’s lone surviving victim, Audrey Pell, hid in a closet while Shepherd murdered her family when she was a child. Shepherd’s last words before his execution are a promise to rise again and continue killing.

In the night, Audrey thinks she sees Shepherd standing outside. Beth takes her to see Mick, but first explains about her own kidnapping and how she still dreams of it. Mick protects Audrey when one of Shepherd’s followers attacks her. Interrogating the follower, he learns that the cult is now headed by a Hollywood movie producer bent on making a film about Shepherd.

Mick visits the producer, Jerry Drake, and finds a package from Shepherd sent just before his death. It contains recordings in which Shepherd talks of blood being the key to unlock death’s door. Mick concludes that Shepherd was turned right before his execution. He takes a look at the surveillance footage from Shepherd’s last day and realises it was the priest who turned Shepherd. Mick goes after the priest and discovers that Drake, the producer, is next on Shepherd’s list. Mick doesn’t get to the producer in time and Drake is killed.

Meanwhile, Beth goes into Mick’s office and finds a file on her, with information starting with the kidnapping and going all the way to recent times. Shepherd breaks into the house, but Mick arrives just in time and beheads the murderer. Later, Beth tells Mick that she knows he rescued her as a child and now she understands why it could never work between them.
