“I think your chopper buddies ran that way, if you want to catch up” Sawyer gives the mysterious Miles a choice to make.
Hurley, Sawyer and Locke enjoy a game of Risk when the telephone rings. Locke answers it and hears a repeated message: “Code 14-J”.
He asks Ben what the code means, but Ben just says that they have to get back to his house – it'll be easier to fortify and offers a better position on the tree line. Locke doesn't understand, and Ben tells him “they're here”.
At the beach camp, Bernard finds a body washed ashore. Faraday and Charlotte recognise the man as their doctor aboard the freighter. He has his throat cut.
In 2005, Ben is in Iraq to recruit Sayid to go after Widmore. Sayid's wife, Nadia, was recently killed, and Ben says Widmore is the man responsible for her death.
Back on the island, the barracks are under attack; Locke, Sawyer, Hurley, Claire and Ben have barricaded themselves inside a house. The men outside have Alex, Ben's daughter, and are threatening to kill her unless Ben comes out. Ben refuses, and to his shock the mercenaries kill his daughter. Ben disappears into a hidden tunnel, and when he comes back out he tells everybody to run. Outside, the smoke monster appears and attacks the mercenaries. The group split up: Sawyer and Claire head back to the beach while Locke, Ben and Hurley head to the cabin for answers.
In another flash-forward, Ben enters Charles Widmore's penthouse apartment while the man is sleeping. He holds Widmore responsible for Alex's death, and plans to kill Penelope to even the scales. He tells Widmore he'll never find the island again; Widmore replies that the hunt is on for both of them.
