Everything comes out at a group meeting at Locke’s house. Miles was hired to find Benjamin Linus; Ben’s spy on the boat is Michael; and once Ben is turned over to the freighter, they have orders to kill everyone on the island. Ben sends Alex, Rousseau and Karl to the Temple, possibly the only safe place on the island.

Sayid manages to talk to Michael and asks what he’s doing there. Flash back to Michael’s crappy New York apartment, where he’s looking at a photo of Walt as a baby. Upset, he tries to commit suicide, but fails. He goes to see his mother and asks to see Walt, but she won’t let him in. Michael buys a gun and is about to shoot himself when Tom Friendly shows up. Tom says he knows Michael feels guilty about killing Ana Lucia and Libby, especially now Walt knows he’s a murderer, but the island won’t let him commit suicide – he has more work to do. Michael sees a news report saying that the wreckage of Oceanic flight 815 has been discovered. Tom explains to Michael that the wreckage is fake, staged by Widmore to protect the island’s location. The Others want Michael to be a spy and saboteur on Widmore’s boat – this is his one shot at redemption.

Sayid is not happy to hear that Michael is a spy, and reveals all to the ship’s captain. On the island, Rousseau, Alex and Karl are attacked on their way to the Temple. Rousseau and Karl are shot and killed, and to save her life Alex shouts out to the attackers that she’s Ben’s daughter.
