Constantino issues a demand that Jericho give several farms and a share of its salt mine to New Bern or it will face an invasion. When Major Anderson refuses, mortars land in the town, injuring 12. Chaos ensues as a squad of men sent by Anderson face troops from New Bern without adequate planning and several are killed. Anderson is facing a coup as Jake, Hawkins, Emily Sullivan and Johnston decide to take action. They meet Emily’s father Jonah, who is leading a bunch of renegades. They strike a deal to join forces and split New Bern’s supplies, leading Anderson, who had considered compromise and non-violence, to decide to fight New Bern. They capture a driver and use him to find the mortar base and Prowse’s men kill every New Bern soldier there. Prowse then executes the driver and says he will be taking all of the supplies. Constantino contacts Anderson to declare war. As they wait for the arrival of New Bern’s force Hawkins retrieves his stash of weapons and everyone over 16 is armed. The episode ends with the troops from New Bern being spotted by scouts on the edge of the town.
