Supplies are running short and patience
even shorter. Stocks of medicine and
food dwindle and the people begin to
resent the refugees. The situation gets
out of hand when two children discover
the tank that belonged to the bogus
Marines in Stanley’s barn. The news that
the Marines were frauds, and military
assistance is not on the way, leads to
protests outside the Major’s office.

The refugees attack policemen
and then barricade themselves in
the church. Gray orders that tear gas
should be used and in the chaos a
woman is trampled and dies. Roger
forces Gray into negotiations at
gunpoint. Gray is shot in the stomach,
leading to a hostage stand-off which is
ended when Jake persuades Roger to
surrender. However, Gail Green makes
a passionate speech suggesting the
refugees take empty houses or live
with townspeople as banishing them is
tantamount to a death sentence. This
is agreed for all but Roger, who is told he
must leave Jericho – he doesn’t protest.
Meanwhile Hawkins remains in touch
with Sarah Mason’s contacts, who
believe she is alive and has an atomic
bomb for sale. He sets up a meeting at
an abandoned warehouse but covertly
photographs the men and puts a tracker
on their vehicle. He uses a satellite to
detect the tracker and takes a photo of
the men. They text him with: “No more
games, Sarah. Will double the price.” He
takes a frame grab, prints it, and labels
it “Boss?”, the question mark relating to
his identity. Jake sets up a radio in the
bar so everyone can hear news of the
outside world. The episode ends with a
news broadcast reporting “in New York,
the terrorists who were apprehended
were all carrying nearly perfect fake FBI
badges.” Jimmy looks upset and the
camera cuts to Hawkins, the FBI badge
he showed Jimmy in the weeks after the
bombs, displayed clearly on his desk.
