Heroes finally finds its stride again in this exciting episode. Hiro’s one-time idol, Takezo Kensei, delivers Hiro to White Beard in exchange for rule of half of Japan and Yaeko as his princess. But Yaeko releases Hiro and, in the ensuing sword fight, Kensei is killed. Hiro returns to his own time, leaving Yaeko behind.

A year in the future, Peter and Caitlin wander the empty streets of an evacuated New York City. They are admitted to a quarantine facility, where they learn that the city was devastated by the Shanti virus. Peter later meets his mother, and, absorbing Parkman’s mind-reading powers, he is able to rebuild some of his lost memories. Peter finally remembers her and they share a tearful embrace. While being escorted through the facility, Peter sees Caitlin in a deportation line – he attempts to rescue her, but accidentally time travels back to the building in Montreal, leaving her behind.

West finally discovers that Claire’s dad is the man who abducted him and, believing Claire set him up, flies away. Mr Bennet sees the newspaper article about the drunk cheerleader and tries to convince Claire they are not safe any more, but she angrily refuses to leave.

Matt uses his newly realised abilities to rescue Molly and trap Maury in the nightmare world. Meanwhile Bob reveals information to Nathan about the Company and ‘Adam Monroe’, its founder. Up until two weeks ago Adam had been incarcerated, and since his escape he has been using Maury to kill those in the Company. In the final scene, Peter encounters Adam Monroe – who is none other than Takezo Kensei.
