After a hiatus that had bloggers
whipping themselves into a
speculative frenzy Heroes returned
for the last fi ve episodes of the
fi rst series. The headline? Another
character bites the dust, but as
always a dizzying number of
interweaving characters and plot
lines meant as many questions were
posed as answered.

The show opened with Linderman
telling Nathan about a huge explosion
that will hit New York City imminently.
He reveals Peter is key to the blast and
tries to abate Nathan’s horror, with
a line explaining the episode’s title.
“There’s six and a half billion people
on the planet, that’s less than .07%.
Come on, that’s an acceptable loss
by anyone’s count.” Linderman then
confi rmed the widely predicted plot
line – he is a former hero with the
power to heal. Linderman says the
explosion is necessary because he
no longer wants to save the world
one life at a time, adding Nathan will
be installed as the fi gure that unites
America in the aftermath.

Having told Claire she has always
known of her existence Angela Petrelli
implies that she is also a former hero,
but doesn’t reveal what her powers
are. Concerned the pair aren’t safe
in NYC she says they’ll leave for Paris
until the election ends.

Sylar and Peter are locked in
a gruelling battle in Mohinder’s
apartment, Sylar attempting to
use telekinesis to slice at Peter’s
skull. Peter’s ability to absorb
other’s powers saves him as he
uses telekinesis to repel Sylar.
Concentration diverted, Sylar cannot
keep Mohinder pinned to the ceiling.
Peter becomes invisible but Sylar
uses his super-hearing to locate him
and fires glass shards at him. Peter
falls bleeding but Mohinder uses his
blackboard to knock out Sylar and
he escapes carrying Peter’s lifeless
body. He takes the corpse back to
Angela’s house.

Claire recalls that a branch lodged
in her skull once prevented her from
regenerating. Examining the body she
finds a glass shard. Once removed
Peter wakes up. Talking with Nathan
about the explosion Peter realises his
regenerative powers mean he may
not be killed in the blast.

Sylar awakens in Mohinder’s
apartment and discovers a copy of
9th Wonder with Isaac’s address.
Isaac is at home and gives a courier
the “fi nal issue” of 9th Wonder,
stressing that he must not lose it.
Nathan fi nally meets his daughter
Claire. He urges her to go to Paris and
Claire is concerned he is ashamed
that she is his illegitimate child but is
eventually reassured.

Bennet is being interrogated by
Candice and Thomson, who tell him
the order to kill him is imminent.
Bennet uses telepathy to tell Matt
Parkman, who attacks a guard and
steals his access pass. On Bennet’s
orders he releases Ted Sprague, who
shuts the building’s power allowing
the trio to escape. They leave for New
York City .

Sylar enters Isaac’s apartment.
A painting in the background shows
Isaac being killed by Sylar. The eerily
calm painter tells Sylar his fate is
certain and he will be stopped. Sylar
demands to see a painting revealing
this future but Isaac says he has
got rid of them, hinting they’ll be
used to capture Sylar. Sylar attacks
him, using different art implements
to crucify Isaac, who dies saying
despite the mistakes he made he is
now a hero.

The final scene is Hiro and Ando
five years in the future, attempting
to discover what mistakes led to the
explosion. Hiro wonders whether
Isaac has survived and can give
them the advice they need. It ends
with Hiro in Isaac’s
