This is the first Heroes episode that
concentrates on one character and
‘Company Man’ clears up a lot of questions
about Bennet. It also tells us about the
origins of Claire, the Haitian and Bennet’s
work for the agency. The episode begins
with Matt, Ted and Hana holding the
Bennets hostage at their home. Bennet
then experiences a series of flashbacks,
which reveal the following:

• Bennet was partnered with Claude as
he began working for Primatech.

• Kaito Nakamura, Hiro’s father, gave
Claire to Bennet after a fire that killed her
biological mother. Kaito tells Bennet “She
belongs to us. If she manifests, we take her.”

• Thomson first allowed Bennet to use
the Haitian’s power to wipe memories when
Bennet expressed concern that his wife was
becoming suspicious about Claire.
• Bennet was instructed to kill Claude
for breaching security and thought he had
succeeded when he shot him on a bridge.
Claude had actually used his invisibility in
order to escape.

At the house Ted becomes enraged
and his powers set the house on fire,
leading Claire to try to save him. She
emerges with her skin burned to ash but
in front of her family, neighbours and the
police she immediately starts to heal. The
episode ends with Matt and Ted in a cell
and Thomson introduces him to his new
partner, Candice Wilmer, before instructing
him to bring Claire in. Instead Bennet takes
Claire to meet the Haitian. He says a tearful
goodbye to his daughter and instructs the
Haitian to shoot him to make it appear that
Claire was kidnapped. He then tells the
Haitian to wipe his memory so fully that his
superiors can find no clues to trace her.
