Terek summons Flash and the canton leaders to the Deviate settlement. Terek rallies the troops, but a Zurn spy tries to assassinate him.
Ming orders his soldiers to invade Frigia for their untainted ice, and Queen Freya now refuses to trade. Rankol warns that this will overstretch Mongo forces, but Ming feels there’s no choice. The Patriots meet heavy resistance and suffer serious casualties. On Earth, Dale airs her piece about Mongo, which brings both her and Flash’s mothers to the attention of some shadowy government agents. The mothers steal Zarkov’s rift blaster and escape to Mongo.
Ming goes to the monks and is surprised to find Rankol there. He condemns Rankol to death and has him taken away to the dungeon. Meanwhile, Baylin and Zarkov try to break into Rankol’s lab to get the Imex, but the lock requires the Floating One’s blood to open. They track Rankol to his cell where he trades some blood for his freedom.
Aura offers her assistance, and Terek suggests she use her access to steal weaponry from Ming’s arsenal. She sees Vestra and her memory stone glows, revealing the woman to be her mother. Mindful of the oath Ming made her take, Vestra denies it. Rankol returns to the Deviate settlement to join the uprising, and Terek reluctantly accepts him. Aura returns with the weapons and they prepare their attack.
Flash returns to Nascent City and finds Baylin and Zarkov retrieving the Imex. Alarms go off and the trio run; as they flee, they find Flash’s father plugged into one of Rankol’s machines. When they unhook him, he starts having a seizure.
