SEASON 1

EPISODE 17:
EBB AND FLOW
US Air Date: 11/01/2008
Writer: Sheryl J. Anderson
Director: Pat Williams

With the Imex, Rankol and Lenu can open a rift anywhere they like and they use it to drain Lake Kendall. Flash is determined to destroy the rift generator and heads to Mongo with Zarkov, Dale, Baylin and Joe.

Ming summons his monks who prophesise “The water bearer is the ruler reborn.” Ming and Rankol both take this to mean that Ming has been reborn and will continue to rule, mocking previous prophecies that predicted his downfall.

Baylin, Dale, and Zarkov hunt for materials to destroy the rift generator while Flash and Joe sell some bottled water for the currency that they will use to pay for the goods. But Lenu activates Joe’s implant again and Joe helps Patriots capture Flash.

Rankol visits Flash in the dungeon and is furious that Flash is unable to deliver them from Ming – Rankol’s long-term plan all along. As Rankol raves, Flash manages to escape.

Baylin realises that the generator is powered by zeryllium, the same substance that caused the Sorrow and led to Mongo’s current state. Destroying the generator could cause a second Sorrow, so they switch to a new plan: blow up the reservoir and send the water from Lake Kendall down the aqueducts and to the cantons. Lenu uses the implant to make Joe attack Flash and Baylin shoots him. Her IP blast shorts out the chip but, unwilling to live with the implant, Joe sacrifices himself to make sure the explosives work properly. Flash consoles Dale, who blames herself for Joe’s death, but Flash reassures her that it’s Ming who’s responsible – and Ming who will pay.
