Natalie dies in a haze of visions, and Admiral Adama sends her murderer, Athena, to the brig. Meanwhile, the rebel Cylon basestar jumps erratically away from the fleet, carrying Roslin, Baltar and a good number of pilots from Galactica. The fleet’s officers believe them to have been kidnapped. Due to Adama’s lack of trust in Vice President Tom Zarek, eccentric lawyer Romo Lampkin is tasked with finding an interim president acceptable to the Admiral and the Quorum of Twelve. Adama has no idea how to find Roslin until a badly damaged Raptor jumps into view, with the pilot dead. As the ship was the same one that transported Roslin to the baseship, Adama jumps the Galactica to where the Raptor came from, leaving the fleet without protection and the Quorum enraged. After the jump, the Galactica discovers the wreckage of human and Cylon ships, and some debris that may be from the Cylon resurrection hub itself. Adama returns begrudgingly to the fleet, but still leaves Raptors to search on for Roslin, straining resources. Tigh and Adama come to blows after the revelation that Caprica Six is pregnant. When Adama confronts Tigh, the father, with the news, he accuses Adama himself of acting foolishly by wasting supplies and troops searching for Roslin. Eventually, they manage to reconcile their differences. However, Admiral Adama resolves to step down until the President is found, accepting his emotional involvement is too high. Romo Lampkin tells Lee that Lee himself would be the best candidate as President in the interim. Lampkin then pulls a gun on Lee, demanding to know why the human race deserves survival. He states his case well, and his life is spared. Soon after, he is sworn in as the President of the Twelve Colonies. After the ceremony, Admiral Adama formally relinquishes control of the Galactica over to Tigh. Adama himself concocts a plan to find Roslin alone, leaving the fleet safe from danger.
