While the fleet mourns for Kara the trial of Gaius Baltar is approaching. Admiral Adama reassigns Lee to look after Baltar’s defence attorney, Romo Lampkin, whose predecessor has been killed in an explosion. Lee warms to Lampkin until the lawyer mentions that Lee’s grandfather, Joseph, a prominent defence attorney, was his mentor. He decides to ignore his flying ban and is about to fly with Lampkin to pick up files when a bomb is spotted on the craft’s underside. It becomes clear that the bomber is a member of the crew, but Lee’s admiration for Lampkin and interest in the case is what is absorbing him. There is another bomb attack but Lampkin escapes with injuries. Adama, alarmed by this, attempts to reinstate Lee to CAG, which leads to a furious argument between the two. The episode ends with Baltar reading a note from Lampkin that says there is no greater ally than a son that is stepping out of the shadow of his father.
