Based on the first book in Terry Pratchett‘s much-loved all-ages Bromeliad Trilogy, Truckers was animated by Cosgrove Hall, the most idiosyncratically lovely of British animators responsible for the likes of Danger Mouse, Count Duckula and later Pratchett adaptations Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters, and originally aired in 1987.
Truckers follows pint-sized nomes who eke-out a Borrower-like existence until they discover they are in fact the survivors of another world and to survive the destruction of their habitat – a department store. Our plucky pocket-sized heroes are forced to use all of their ingenuity to hijack a truck and in typically Pratchett fashion, all of their common sense to overcome to dogma and bureaucracy of the store’s nome elite.
Arriving on DVD on 7 October 2013 from Fremantelmedia, Terry Pratchett’s Truckers is not only lovingly restored, but is actually available for the first time in its entirety as previous home video releases edited the whole thing together as one feature length episode.
