Nathan Fillion stars as the new Green Lantern

Move over Ryan Reynolds…

Firefly star Nathan Fillion will be voicing the role of Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the new animated DC movie Green Lantern: Emerald Nights, according to TV Guide. It’s a series of vignettes about different members of the intergalactic police force Green Lantern Corps. Fillion’s character will be mentor for new Lantern recruit Arisia, voiced by Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss.

“I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator,” Fillion said. “Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern.” The animation from Warner will also feature Kelly Hu (Vampire Diaries) and Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter).

Fillion starred with Ryan Reynolds in the television sitcom Two Guys and a Girl and he has nothing but praise for the soon-to-be superhero. “He’s a great guy, a gem, deserves all the success that he’s getting, so it’s neat to have a little piece and share it with someone you know,” said Fillion.

Ryan Reynold’s turn as the Green Lantern will swoop into cinemas on June 17, 2011.

Green Lantern: Emerald Nights will be released on DVD on June 7, 2011.
