Design an alternative film poster for new film Mr Holmes

Our friends over at Photoshop Creative magazine have put together a competition that any film and design buffs among you are sure to want to get involved with.

Released in cinemas on 19 June, Mr Holmes sees Sir Ian McKellen play the long-retired former master detective Sherlock Holmes, uncovering the man behind the legend as he takes stock of his life.

Your challenge is to create an alternative film poster, with the winner having their design displayed in the Sherlock Holmes pub in London. The winner will receive a Wacom Intuos Pro Medium graphics tablet!

On top of this fantastic prize, the winning poster will be displayed at the Sherlock Holmes pub in London for a whole week.

About the film

Based on the novel A Slight Trick of the Mind by Mitch Cullin, Mr Holmes reimagines Sherlock Holmes as a real person whose adventures have been turned into best-selling novels by his friend and partner Dr John Watson. Now old and in failing health, the famously rational detective is forced to engage for the first time with his emotions as his mental powers dwindle. In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement. As well as McKellen, Mr Holmes stars Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (The Savages) as housekeeper Mrs Munro, Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter) and newcomer Milo Parker. The film is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters). Taking inspiration from the trailer above, we want you to design us a movie poster for Mr Holmes! Your creation should reflect the tone of the film, so be as original and creative as you possibly can, taking influence from the legendary stories of Holmes himself, or just creating something new and unique. Remember, the winning entry will be showcased in the Sherlock Holmes pub – so get designing something iconic and worthy of Mr Holmes himself!
