Director Peter Jackson has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Billy Connolly will star in The Hobbit, saying, “We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of the dwarves, than… the Big Yin himself. With Billy stepping into this role the cast of The Hobbit is now complete.”
The comedian has previously starred in Gulliver’s Travels and The X-Files: I Want To Believe and he now joins a cast that includes Barry Humphries, Stephen Fry, James Nesbitt and Evangeline Lilly.
